Commons Briefing Papers
The Parliament Library has released three notes that are likely to be of interest, covering road accident statistics, the cause of motor insurance rate rises and the draft Consumer Rights Bill.
Motor Car Insurance
Looks at the causes of motor premium rate rises, which it states are partly due to the cyclical nature of premium rate increases, partly due to rises in the cost and incidence of claims for bodily injury compensation following accidents and partly due to increases in fraud. Reported road accident statistics
In 2012, there were 195,723 reported casualties on the roads of Great Britain, including 1,754 fatalities and 23,039 serious casualties. This Note provides a range of data relating to reported road accidents in Great Britain. The report concludes that there were relatively fewer road fatalities in the United Kingdom in 2012 than in other countries across Europe and the rest of the World. Draft Consumer Rights Bill
This looks in detail at the draft Consumer Rights Bill 2013. In the process it provides an outline of the
existing consumer law regime and why it is thought to be unfit for purpose. Draft Consumer Rights Bill - Commons Library Standard Note.
